One of the tensions we deal with daily is how to stay true to the amazing gospel of Jesus Christ and yet adjust our strategies and methods to connect with a changing culture. One of the things we have noticed over time is that when we introduce ourselves as Campus for Christ, many students have a preconceived idea of what we believe because of who they think Jesus is or Christians are—and to be honest, often these ideas are skewed. One thing we want students to know is that Jesus offers to radically transform our hearts, and that Christianity is not about obeying a bunch of religious rules.
This is one of the main reasons why we changed our name in January to Power to Change – Students. This also helps us have more consistency with and awareness of the overarching ministry we are a division of Power to Change. We have found this name to be a great conversation starter that leads to a great opportunities to share the hope Jesus offers. On campus, we will go by simply Power to Change, or P2C.
One concern we had with the name change was the risk of being perceived as devaluing Jesus or the gospel by taking Christ out of our name. That couldn’t be further than the truth. Our mission is still to change the world by helping students discover Jesus. Please join us in praying that this name change will be one small thing that contributes to this.
